Karen O’Reilly
We've seen people rave about ice baths on our social media feeds for a while. So we had to get an expert in on why they are so popular and what are the benefits behind doing them properly. And that is why we got Karen from Sealieve.ie on to the Any Given Runday Podcast this week.
Karen started her journey with cold water therapy over six years ago. On the podcast, she talks about how she went from cold showers to morning swms, to ice baths.
She is a very active person, having completed triathlons and climbed Kilimanjaro. She credits using heat and cold measures for helping her remain injury free. On the podcast she talks about these protocols as well as:
- Why her number one reason for using ice baths is mental, not physical,
- The benefits of cold water therapy
- Why the morning is the best time to use an ice bath, along with why it might NOT be a good idea to use an ice bath straight after the gym
- How you can progress your cold water therapy
- The magic number per week in terms of how long you should spend in an ice bath
- Breathing techniques, as well as why you shouldn't just stay still in the ice bath
- How cold should the water be
- And MUCH more...
If you have ever thought about using cold water therapy, THIS is the episode for you.
