A couple of months ago I was contacted by Sport Chek to be a coach for their half and full marathon training club out of the new flag ship store in Vancouver. I was incredibly honoured and excited to help get the program off and running (no pun intended😜) and to pursue something I’d been thinking about for a while, coaching!
Since that time we’ve been meeting with expert track coaches at the University of British Columbia, running around the city planning routes, programming and setting up the schedule, and even refining our strength and conditioning skills to help ensure runners get the most comprehensive training program possible! It’s been a busy couple of months, but I’m excited and proud of the program we’ve created and I can’t wait to run the streets of Vancouver with this club!!
So what’s the plan?
The training program starts June 6th and will be geared towards racing on October 9th- which is the date for the Victoria, Portland and Kelowna half and full marathons (I can modify the training program for those training for another race). Training days will be Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s and will include:
– Distance training with some amazing pacers
– Proper warm-up and cool down exercises
– Hill training
– Speed and track workouts
– Introductory weight training
Who can join?
EVERYONE…as long as you can get to Vancouver for 5:30😉 The training club is for everyone from first-time racers to experienced runners who run at least 20km per week and have been running for six months or more. Whether you’re looking to tick the distance off your bucket list or achieve a personal best, I’m here to help!
